ArtPoint Armoury
A community focused creative heart for Hobsonville Point, offering space to create, collaborate and showcase local talent.
ArtPoint’s vision for the Armoury is to transform this long-boarded, underused building at Te Onekiritea/Bomb Point into a vibrant, community-focused arts hub.
Since 2023, ArtPoint has demonstrated the depth of local demand for meaningful arts engagement, hosting annual Art Trails, arts salons and workshops that nurture creative connections across ages and cultures. Yet as our community repeatedly tells us, there is still no dedicated place where people can come together to make, experiment, and learn.
Positioned at the entrance to Te Onekiritea/Bomb Point, close to Te Kawerau ā Maki whenua and the Rifle Range, the Armoury is ideally situated to become a beacon for inclusive, intergenerational creative practice.
With the support of mana whenua, who have already collaborated with ArtPoint on all three Art Trails, and our established relationships with local schools, arts organisations, and universities, the revitalised Armoury will serve as a creative space that strengthens community identity and wellbeing. Our vision is to “make safe” and restore the building, opening its doors to workshops, exhibitions, youth programmes, rehearsals, and hands-on learning that simply cannot happen in current community facilities.
Bringing the Armoury back to life will not only activate an underutilised public asset but also give Hobsonville Point a creative heart.
The Process
As an ex-military building, the Armoury is built strong and sturdy. It’s seen better days though, and needs a fair amount of work to make it ready for public use.
