Mark Kaneko, curator of the Massey University art collection, is a serial creative, entrepreneur and active member of the Onekiritea – Hobsonville Point community. As an artist Mark has shown work in solo exhibitions in UK, Japan, and New Zealand and has work featured in major NZ collections. In addition to his work at Te Kunenga Ki Purehuroa – Massey University, Mark has curated many smaller exhibitions, previously managing the Digital Darkroom and Satellite galleries; and recently opening up his Hobsonville home to exhibit the work of local photographic artist Abby Storey.
As an entrepreneur Mark has recently designed, in collaboration with Hobsonville resident James Smeal, a board game about swing dancing which will be released into shops later this year. Living in the area since early 2019, Mark has served as chairperson of the Hobsonville Point Residents Society, had people visit his Japanese inspired garden in the Hobsonville Point Garden Ramble, created and managed the Hobby Pride project, and is currently an admin of Hobsonville Cat Society Facebook group.
