Billie Lythberg

Billie has a PhD in art history and teaches management and organisation studies at the University of Auckland. She specialises in supervising creative practice-led graduate degrees and in transitioning adult students to first-time study.

Billie is also a curator, writer, public speaker and art critic, and advocate for creative practice and public art. She has more than 100 publications in her name, is co-creator of the TV documentary series ARTEFACT, and is the contributing editor for the arts of the Pacific Islands to SmARThistory, content provider to Khan Academy.

Billie moved to Onekiritea in March with her partner Mike Weston, after 18 months of weekend visits to watch a bare site turn into a home. They love the people, open spaces and architecture here, and the extraordinary heritage buildings.

30 years ago, Billie was one of the group that secured a run-down works depot for the local creative community in Devonport. Depot Artspace is running strong.
