About the artists

Heather Nye-Hingston
Hi, my name is Heather Nye-Hingston, and I am proud to be a Kiwi woman, wife, and mother of three amazing children.
Art, in all its forms, has woven its way into the very fabric of my existence, accompanying me throughout my life’s journey.
I am a creative soul at heart, vibrant and colourful, and deeply enamoured with life.
With a brush in my hand I aim to radiate an abundance of joy and love, and embrace the magnificent world around me.
As an artist, I am in a constantly evolving my style. I enjoy the opportunity to learn new techniques and explore diverse avenues for expressing emotions. My current work consists of colourful and bold imagery, infused with a touch of whimsy. My artistic focus revolves around capturing the “Motion of Emotion”, inspiring my creations with the dynamic energy that feelings evoke.

Michael Bannister
My name is Michael Bannister I started painting as a teenager in the UK.
My inspiration was being Surrounded with landscapes, castles, fishing ports, and beaches.
It was a long time after arriving in New Zealand before I got back into painting,
I am now enjoying the time since retirement to start painting some of the fabulous
Landscapes here in New Zealand.

Eric Goodhew
I have been painting for 3 years now. I’m totally self taught via free acrylic tutorials as found on the Internet. I have adopted a hard edge style with a print like finish. So far my journey whas been to mostly copy known NZ artists, I do acknowledge the Artist on the rear of my canvas.

Alana Cooke
MA. MCW HONS, BA HONS NZRN
Alana took art lessons in Christchurch. She did Year 13 Art at Hagley High School and took part in exhibitions. She also studied Art History at Canterbury University, Christchurch.
Art and painting are a passion. A lifelong interest. All disciplines of art are of interest. She loves the intellectual and artistic freedom of painting abstracts and the discipline of painting landscapes, especially of the beautiful South Island Alps.
All are a joy.

Liza Taylor
I’ve had a lifelong interest in the arts and spent much of my career in design. After raising two daughters I was able to return to hands-on creating and focus on what I truly love.
While I’ve explored several mediums, I’m especially drawn to acrylic landscape painting – capturing the beauty of places I’ve explored throughout New Zealand. My work often reflects a love of water, light and patterns found in nature. More recently I’ve begun experimenting with fibre art, enjoying its texture and creative possibilities.
It’s a pleasure to share some of my artwork with you.

Judith Anderson
My interest in quilting began about 15 years ago.
After making many traditional pieced quilts I decided it was time to try something different.
Making this appliqué guilted picture was an enjoyable challenge,
which was completed in the second Covid Lock Down.

Ian Stevenson
Hello – I’m Ian and my hobby is making model boats for display. I started making model aeroplanes when I was a young boy but with little success – mostly they crashed during the first flight! I come from a long line of Seafarers, and having spent some time in the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserves, I graduated to making model boats. The models are made from scratch, not from a kit set. People often ask how long it takes to make a model – usually about 9 to 12 months depending on the amount of detail on the model. The downside of model making is what to do with the models after they are finished!
I am a Volunteer in the Model Workshop at the NZ Maritime Museum (Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa) and also crew on one of the vessels. We build models of our own choice, but from time to time we also assist the curators in repairing damaged models.

Louis Statham
Louis Statham has had a 53 year career as a graphic artist. The last 12 years as a muralist, mainly for Auckland Council.
He is now working on a series of paintings based on mindfulness.
This involves paintings of nature in detail including birds, animals, insects and flowers.

Barbara Christmas
I’ve taken part in various courses, classes, workshops, and projects, and I enjoy working across a range of mediums, including photography and painting.

Liz Campbell
I have painted as a hobby for many years and enjoyed a variety of subjects and mediums, including oils.
These days, I mainly use watercolour, acrylic and chalk pastels.
